You probably know about Google Search Console and maybe you use it to check your website’s performance in Google search.

It has another handy function that is often overlooked. Towards the bottom of the menu is ‘Links’. This is where you can find out about other websites that are linking to yours.

Often called ‘backlinks’, these have a role in helping your website to be visible through search. Backlinks that come from quality domains help to establish the authority of your website, because they indicate that people are referencing your site. Search engines therefore use this as one factor when calculating which search results to push back at you after you’ve entered a search query.

Julian Goldie’s excellent video goes into depth on how you can check your backlink profile in Google Search Console.

If you don’t have access to Google Search Console because you haven’t yet claimed your account, my video walks you through the steps.
